This guest house grew out of a simple need: a place for family to come together without stepping on each other's toes. The property already had a guest room, but with grown kids now visiting with grandchildren, a single bedroom wasn't enough.
The addition builds onto the original bedroom, adding a full kitchen and living room to give the family their own functional space to cook and relax. We introduced two sets of French doors to shape the way the home interacts with the outdoors. One set opens directly into a private garden, offering a quiet, tucked-away retreat, while the other connects to the shared courtyard, making it easy to wander back and forth between the two houses.
Stylistically, the priority was making the new space look like it was built right alongside the main Spanish-style home. We matched the exterior finishes, tied in tile and brick accents, and carried over traditional Spanish detailing. The finished ADU blends into the property seamlessly, giving everyone a space of their own while keeping the whole family connected.
