This 5-bedroom house in Pacific Beach, San Diego, is intended to function as a high-occupancy short-term rental. Our primary goal was to create a classic, timeless, coastal feel.
The central living room and dining space - the heart of the home - needed to comfortably seat up to 14 guests despite its limited footprint. We chose a sofa with a chaise, maximizing lounging area without crowding the room. Two striped accent chairs bring in a timeless coastal feel and provide two extra seats for relaxation. It was tricky to provide a dining table large enough to fit 14 people. We opted for flexible benches instead of fixed chairs, which allows more guests to comfortably fit. To supplement, we created a high-top bar with 4 stools, plus the coffee bar has 2 extra stools that serve as extra seats.
Throughout the home, we created a cohesive coastal feel while giving each room unique personality. The ocean bedroom features blue seashell wallpaper, rope sconces, and hand-painted watercolors, all balanced by natural textures like a wicker bench and a wood-clad beam for warmth. The palm tree bedroom combines painted shiplap with warm woods and features a thrifted dresser. This curated approach, incorporating many thrifted pieces like pottery and color-coordinated books, ensured the final product felt personal, lived-in, and sophisticated.
